The weather was a bit hazy and the Campus was officially still closed when our boss Gerrit Beck met Markus Funke from the JugendCampus in January 2020 for an appointment on location. The occasion: the joint viewing of a gift from Wefapress® - a synthetic plastic curling rink complete with accessories. To date it had served as a test rink at Wefapress® and had delivered decent results. However, the spring opening of the curling rink had to be postponed due to corona and went into a deep slumber. To everyone's delight, the Campus is now open again to a limited extent and is offering activities for groups of up to seven participants*. As soon as things return to normal, the rink will be ready and the kids can practice their skills and tactics in pairs or in teams.
Just how did this donation come about? "The JugendCampus of the Jugendwerk Vreden e.V. opened last September directly in the vicinity of our Wefapress plant and has been incredibly well received by the children," as managing director Gerrit Beck relates, and went on to comment: "This is a great facility and I spontaneously had the idea that our curling rink would be perfect as a complementary element for the outdoor grounds. After putting one call through to Markus Funke everything was already arranged!
One more highlight for the JugendCampus
The former school which houses the JugendCampus was also renovated with the help of subsidies. The campus is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and full-time staff. With the JugendCAFE, a youth Office, a nature workshop and the large outdoor area, the everyday life of many children and young people would already be unimaginable without the Campus.
From now on, the JugendCampus will be one attraction richer thanks to this plastic curling rink. Just wipe the ice field clean, grab the ice sticks - and off you go ;-). As a manufacturer of technical plastics and individual plastic parts, we at Wefapress are delighted about this special use of our material and wish everyone lots of fun with curling!
